This is an essay I wrote recently and submitted to several publications in the hopes of having it accepted and printed. As yet, they have all declined. So, I will post it here. I'm sorry for the length, but that is necessary to tell the whole story of how and why I took a second turn in the closet.
When I made the decision in late 2006 to move back home to East Texas I knew that it wouldn't be easy.
Thank you!
Great piece I reblogged on second time in the closet. While I know Houston’s very different from the part of East Texas you describe, I spent a great deal of time there in the 80s & early 90s and can empathise.
I appreciate it very much. Yes, Houston is different, but not otherworldly different. Texas is fairly monolythic in its fear of queers with only a few bastions of sanity!
Well, I admire your fortitude. Do give that nice Rick Perry my best next time you run into him…although you needn’t bother slowing down when you do.
Haha…I’ll be sure and do that!
